As told by the NCC, all current users on any network must link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their Sim cards within two weeks. This was made public a few weeks ago, and from now on, anyone who wants to buy a new SIM card in Nigeria will need their NIN.
Since this is a hard choice for a lot of people, we will look at how easy it is to link your NIN to your SIM card, even if you do not have an internet connection on any of the networks (9mobile, Airtel, Glo, or MTN).
Checking your NIN
Just dial *346# on the phone number you gave when you signed up for your National Identity Card. 20 will be taken off.
Ways to connect your NIN
MTN gave us three easy ways to connect NIN, but the other networks only gave us two. Please follow the steps below to finish it on your phone.
#1 Method: How to Link NIN on MTN SIM (using website)
Go to https://mtnonline.com/nim on any of your phone browsers.
On the page that opens, type in your First Name, Last Name, the phone number you want to link, and the NIN number.
Enter the OTP that was sent to your phone, then click “Submit.” You are done.

#2 Method (using USSD)
Enter the code *785# and then follow the prompts. It is free, and you do not need a data link to use it.
#3 Method (using MyMTN app)
Sign in to the MyMTN app and tap the NIN badge on the home page.
Follow the same steps as shown above to connect your SIM card.
How to Link NIN to Airtel SIM
To use the USSD number, dial *121*1# and then do what it says.
You can also use their website to send them your NIN. You just need to go to https://www.airtel.com.ng/nin.
How to Connect NIN on Glo Network
Send “UPDATENIN NIN FirstName and LastName” to 109 from your messaging app or go to https://www.gloworld.com/ng/nin/ to do it online.
How to connect your NIN to 9mobile
Go to the app on your phone and type *3461# on the 9moile sim you want to join. Then, follow the on-screen instructions.
You can also do it by going to https://nin.9mobile.com.ng/.
Use the phone number that is listed on your national ID.
Put in the right details when you submit.
Wait a few minutes and try again if you get an error message.
